Astonishing Panorama of the Graphical Endtimes

Postby Narcosis on Fri Feb 13, 2009 2:58 am

My old art thread had alot of dead links and crap so I figured I'd reboot my forum gallery here. There will be more added to this initial post as I unearth more of my stuff from various folders. New stuff will be posted as I make it.

In my opening post I put up what I felt for each period of my skill were my best pieces. This is a very small sampling of my progression. Just for the hell of it I figured I;d give you guys a taste of some of my lesser efforts.

Some of these are jokes, some are rushed pieces and some are requests. (And as any sigmaker can tell you, requests are usually your worst work because non-designers want too much text or give you bad stocks.)

Personally, I'm a fan of the "RuneX: Yaoi Fanboy" one. Got a good chuckle.

This is a quickie, and only about 15 layers as opposed to some of my behemoth 30+ layer files for a typical forum signature. I wanted to try and work with some blatant high saturation color.

Why yes, that high saturation is very blatant... I'm a little too out of practice to comment on technique, but I'm not sure what I think about that kajigger over her eye...

This is a standard Hori Fighting Stick 3, of which I own one:

This is a screenshot of Persona 3 Portable's menu screens:

And taking the above screenshot, and my love of all things guilty gear as inspiration, this is soon to be the artwork which will replace the bland and boring stock face of my Hori FS3:

And yes, the red dots are where the cut out holes for the buttons are located. I also intend to swap out or repaint the buttons and the ball top from the stick to match the artwork.

EDIT: Taking into account some of the commentary on text obscured by button slots and my own personal nit-picking of some minor details, here's the updated, and most likely final, version:

Interesting design but some of the text is lost because of the buttons and I never really cared for I-No (personal preference more than anything else).

OK, added a fixed version into the previous post. Now pretty much all that remains is my decision on how to actually get this art onto the stick. As far as buttons and the stick ball-top, I'm just going to repaint the stock ones. I see no need to do what alot of stick modifiers do and upgrade to different Japanese arcade board parts. I'm perfectly happy with the FS3 as is except for the aesthetics.

Considering I used that one in a tag battle at SI, probably early 2006.

I knew I should have quit browsing super high ppi fighting game images because now I did this and I dunno which to put on my Hori anymore:

And this one is pretty simple: more copy+paste than the I-No GGXX stick art, but I like the overall clean look. gah.......

So hard to choose! I love Blazblue but it looks kinda... generic? I'd say I-no, looks more unique.

Update on the arcade stick:

I'm going with the I-No/Persona3 design. After seeing a ton of fighting stick art online that's similar to the BlazBlue design (which is very cut+paste) I think I want something that's not so much like what everyone else's stick looks like. I don't know when I'll get the thing printed because to swap out or paint the buttons I need to do a little more research on electronics modifications, since I apparently need to solder some crap. Anyways, it's in the works..
